Test System for Vehicle Diagnostic Scanner

Presentation abstract

Vehicle communication is constantly growing ever since first electronic control units (ECUs) where introduced in the automotive industry. Automotive communication protocols are changing rapidly so their implementation testing in diagnostic equipment must provide reliable results with very demanding time-to-market requirements.

This paper presents automated test system for testing firmware implementation of vehicle diagnostic scanner that communicates with electronic control units (ECU). The main goal of this system is automated testing (ATS) of different vehicle protocol stack implementations (e.g. D-PDU, KWP2000, ISO-TP,…) which are using different physical protocols such as CAN and K-Line. The second objective is development of system that can be manageable by test manager software like Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) or HP Quality Center (QC). Under this system, ECU emulator is developed, which helps to emulate different ECU protocols. Execution of desired test plan can be triggered manually or automatically.

Miloje Zečević
Miloje Zečević is a Telecommunication Engineer with more than 15 years of experiense in a design of embedded hardware and software in various telecom, control and monitoring applications. He has been working on a projects including microvawe transmission systems and active array antennas; creating automated test benches with software for RF measurements automation and document creation; system engineering and integration; system engineering in logistics. His latest work as a Software Engineer in Comtrade Digital Services company includes implementation and testing of vehicle communication protocols used in automotive industry.

Dragan Obradović
Dragan Obradović has over 20 years of experience in embedded system development as software and hardware developer, technical lead, software designer, system architect and project manager in different areas of industry like telecommunication, medical, industrial safety, logistics and automotive. He has over 60 published scientific papers. Currently, Dragan Obradović is Lead Software Engineer in Embedded Systems department at Comtrade Digital Services company.
