Test Engineers are human Psychological Aspects of Testing Teams

Ori Avihail

Presentation abstract

The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the "human" aspects of test teams and test engineers (TEs).
Being a test engineer (TE) is a tough job.
They are caught between the hammer (The customer and management) and the anvil (the R&D team)
The image of the TE is low. Many companies are using students or entry level people for the job. In many companies TE are just counting the days until they can leave the position and be "promoted" to developers.

The main purpose of my presentation is to correct this huge mistake.
TE is a very important task in modern software development process.
They are the last frontline before the customer and major part in the image of the company.
It is very important to use professional and skilled personnel for the job.
Another purpose (which is of course connected to the above) is to promote the TE image, in order to help getting and retaining skilled and proud personnel for the group for the long term and achieve professionalism.

I will present methods by which the management and TE leaders can put the TE in the center of the project life cycle so all project stakeholders (including the TE himself) will understand the importance of this role.
