Nowadays, the Basque Country has one of the most extensive networks of agents of technology and science in Spain, with more than 14.000 researchers. This network includes more than 80 organisms, like technological centres, laboratories, units of business and universities, focused in a wide range of disciplines: bioscience, nanoscience, energy, manufacturing, science information, social sciences and humanities, among others.
We must also enhance the importance of the 18 technological centres in the Basque Country and the Cooperative Research Centres (CIC), platforms of cooperation in developing medium and long strategies of research in the Basque Country. There are five centres for the following disciplines: life sciences, bio-materials, manufacturing, nanotechnology and microtechnology.
In fact, the Bizkaia Technology Park, located in Zamudio (15 km from the city centre, 10 km from the International Airport of Bilbao and 15 km from the University of the Basque Country), has more than 200 companies, 12 Centres for Applied Research and 7000 workers.
